Deductibles - Deductible or Self Insured Retention

A policy may include a higher or lower Deductible or Self Insured Retention amount. These are often confused, but they are not the same.

A deductible counts toward eroding the limits of insurance and an SIR does not. Also, large SIRs is most instances are not required to be collateralized, while large deductibles are required to be collateralized.
